We had to stop for a moment and celebrate the talent of this LIT scholar right here! 👏🏿 Amiyah Downs has always had a passion for spoken word, and we wanted to share a special moment from last year. While serving at Triune Mercy Center, Amiyah and her fellow scholars had the opportunity to spend time in the art room creating crafts for the community. But Amiyah decided to put her creativity to work in a different way. She picked up a pen and wrote a poem. And THIS is what she created! We’re so excited to introduce the 2027 LIT Cohort for this school year! 🙌🏿 First up: Abram Verduzco Abram is a member of the #Classof2028, plays on his high school soccer team, and is involved with Tiger Alliance. One of his goals this year is to keep putting himself in new spaces, and when asked what he’s looking forward to most in LIT, he said: “Opportunities to grow my leadership skills and connecting with more people.” We’re excited to watch Abram keep stretching himself, building new connections, and stepping into even more opportunities this year!

His expertise spans accounting, finance, tax strategy, multi-state business operations, and financial advisory services, giving him a unique ability to help entrepreneurs better understand the numbers behind their businesses and make more informed decisions. Antonio is especially passionate about using financial insight to help business owners uncover opportunities, plan strategically, and build stronger businesses. Today we’re highlighting LIT student Markaiya Young! A member of the Class of 2026, Markaiya is involved in cheer, track, Mu Alpha Theta, and Beta Club, where she serves as treasurer. She is also an athletic trainer trainee and enjoys painting and cooking. Markaiya has a heart for helping others and is committed to making a positive impact in the world. We’re proud to be part of her journey!

What would excellence look like in this role?

Then choose one role and strengthen it through ACTION:

Show up 10 minutes early.
Prepare before practice.
Follow up without being asked.

Carlo White, Sr., President of the Carlo & Nika White Foundation, holds a BS in Economics from Clemson University and served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, where he managed a $36 million budget as Comptroller of Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base in Kuwait.

His leadership reflects strategic stewardship, disciplined execution, and service-driven impact.

As an entrepreneur, Carlo has founded multiple successful companies, and his commitment to economic mobility and community well-being extends well beyond business.

He has served on the board of advisors for the Greenville Chamber of Commerce and the board of directors for Community Works Federal Credit Union, and he continues to support our community in so many meaningful ways.

This past Saturday, our full Leaders in Training (LIT) cohort chose to serve! 🫶🏿 Students spent their weekend at @triunemercy packing food bags and creating artwork to include in lunch bags for neighbors in need. Today, for Black History Month, we honor Dori Sanders. Dori Sanders was a celebrated author and lifelong farmer from Clover, South Carolina. She owned and operated a peach farm and used her writing to share stories rooted in family, faith, and Southern life, preserving experiences that are too often overlooked.
