Meet Amy, a member of our LIT Class of 2027! 🎓
Between Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, volleyball, and an internship with DP3 Architects, Amy is making the most of her high school years!
Her big goal this year? Getting accepted to Clemson University with enough scholarships and financial aid to cover her full cost of attendance!
And what is she most looking forward to in LIT this year? The SERVICE TRIP!
We're excited to see Amy continue to grow, lead, and serve!
#LITScholars #ClassOf2027 #FutureLeaders #CNWF
Growth often requires us to step beyond what's familiar.
To try something new, take a chance, pursue an opportunity, even when the outcome isn't guaranteed.
We believe in equipping young people with the confidence, skills, and support to take those steps.
Because sometimes, the most meaningful opportunities begin with the courage to do something different!
#CNWF #LeadershipDevelopment #NextGenerationLeaders
⚽ From the soccer field to the architecture studio, Kayden Escato is making moves!
A member of our LIT cohort and the Class of 2027, Kayden is gaining hands-on experience through an internship with McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture Firm while staying active in Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Clemson Tiger Alliance, the Cambridge Money & Responsibility Program, and community service.
And his goal for this year? 🎯
"To get one step closer to pursuing my dreams."
Through LIT, Kayden is looking forward to finding new ways to add value to his community and the world around him.
Keep making those moves, Kayden! 👏🏽

We had to stop for a moment and celebrate the talent of this LIT scholar right here!
👏🏿
Amiyah Downs has always had a passion for spoken word, and we wanted to share a special moment from last year.
While serving at Triune Mercy Center, Amiyah and her fellow scholars had the opportunity to spend time in the art room creating crafts for the community.
But Amiyah decided to put her creativity to work in a different way. She picked up a pen and wrote a poem.
And THIS is what she created!
We couldn't be prouder of Amiyah and the way she's using her voice, creativity, and gifts.
Keep shining, Amiyah! We're cheering you on! 🤎

We’re so excited to introduce the 2027 LIT Cohort for this school year! 🙌🏿
First up: Abram Verduzco
Abram is a member of the #Classof2028, plays on his high school soccer team, and is involved with Tiger Alliance.
One of his goals this year is to keep putting himself in new spaces, and when asked what he’s looking forward to most in LIT, he said: “Opportunities to grow my leadership skills and connecting with more people.”
We’re excited to watch Abram keep stretching himself, building new connections, and stepping into even more opportunities this year!
Excellence isn't about getting everything right every time. It's about showing up, putting in the work, and making the choice to keep growing.
The habits we build today shape who we become tomorrow. Every opportunity to learn, serve, and lead is a step in the right direction!

Big goals rarely happen all at once.
They begin with one decision. One opportunity. One brave first step.
Whether you’re pursuing an education, building a new skill, or working toward a dream that feels bigger than where you are today... START.
You don’t have to see the whole staircase to take the first step.
What’s one step you can take today?
#CNWF #GrowthJourney #growthmindset #leadership
Leadership isn’t only built in classrooms or around conference tables.
Sometimes it looks like rolling up your sleeves, serving alongside others, and doing the work that helps a community thrive.
We’re always proud to see our LIT students putting leadership into action, and with a smile while they’re at it!
#CNWF #leadership #leadershipdevelopment
Change rarely looks beautiful while you’re living through it.
At first, it can feel uncomfortable.
In the middle, it can feel uncertain and messy.
But growth is often happening long before you can see the finished result.
The middle isn’t the end of the story.
Keep going. Keep learning. Keep becoming!
#CNWF #leadership #growthmindset
Profit can build a business. Purpose can build a legacy.
When what you build creates opportunity, strengthens communities, and opens doors for others, success becomes bigger than the bottom line.
Build something that matters.
Then use it to make a difference!

What an incredible experience! 🌍
This summer, two of our LIT Scholars, Kayden Escoto and Jael Autry, were accepted into the Cambridge Money & Responsibility Program and traveled to Cambridge, England to participate.
We are so proud of them for stepping into this opportunity, expanding their experiences, and continuing to grow as young leaders.
We’re very proud of you, Kayden and Jael!

Meet Antonio Smith, CPA!
We’re excited to introduce another professional bringing his expertise to the Carlo & Nika White Foundation.
With more than 10 years of experience in public accounting, Antonio has worked alongside small business owners across the Southeast, helping them navigate the financial side of building and growing a business.
His expertise spans accounting, finance, tax strategy, multi-state business operations, and financial advisory services, giving him a unique ability to help entrepreneurs better understand the numbers behind their businesses and make more informed decisions.
Antonio is especially passionate about using financial insight to help business owners uncover opportunities, plan strategically, and build stronger businesses.
We’re excited to welcome Antonio to the CNWF team and grateful to have his expertise supporting the work ahead! 🙌🏿
The road may take longer than you expected.
It will require more patience, more discipline and more faith than you planned.
Keep going.
The work you’re doing today is building toward something worth reaching.
One step at a time. One decision at a time. Forward is still forward.
Big smiles. Big dreams. Even bigger potential.
A little throwback to some of our LIT students and a reminder that the future is already being shaped by young people who are learning, growing, connecting and discovering what they’re capable of.
Keep going. You’re just getting started! 🫶🏿
We’re already missing this amazing group of students! 🫶🏿
Wishing each of them a great new school year ahead!
Some things take time!
Growth.
Healing.
Building something meaningful.
Becoming who you’re called to be.
There may not be a shortcut, but every faithful step still moves you forward.
Keep going because the destination is worth the journey!
#CNWF #KeepGoing #Purpose #Perseverance
Big change often starts with one small step.
You don’t have to have the whole path figured out, you just have to be willing to begin.
So take the first step... then keep going. 🙌
We’re so grateful for the incredible response to the announcement of Hannah as Executive Director of the CNWF!
It’s a beautiful reminder of what can happen when we use what we’ve been given to serve others and help create brighter futures for all. 🫶🏿

Today, think about all that you are instead of all that you are not.
It is easy to focus on what still needs work, what someone else does better, or where you feel like you fall short.
But growth also requires recognizing the strengths, gifts, progress, and potential already within you.
Give yourself credit for how far you have come.
Then keep going!

Hannah Cooley is making big moves at CNWF! 👏🏿
From serving on the Carlo and Nika White Foundation Board, to leading our Leaders in Training Program, to now serving as Executive Director, Hannah has been deeply connected to this work for years.
In her new role, she is leading efforts to expand CNWF’s community impact, strengthen strategic partnerships, and develop programs that create meaningful opportunities for individuals, families, and communities.
Hannah brings experience across philanthropy, youth development, organizational strategy, research, international development, and community engagement—and she already knows the heart of this Foundation and the people we serve.
We’re excited for this next chapter and all that Hannah will help CNWF build from here!

Not everything deserves your attention.
Sometimes, moving forward requires turning down the noise, setting boundaries, and creating space to focus on what matters most.
What distraction can you limit today to make room for greater purpose?
#LimitDistractions #IntentionalLiving #PurposeDriven #BuildingBrighterFutures #CNWF
We believe every blessing carries the opportunity to create something greater, not only for ourselves, but for others.
Through service, generosity, and intentional action, we can help open doors, strengthen communities, and build brighter futures for all!
We know our LITs aren’t afraid of a little hard work! 💪🏽
This throwback from our April leadership retreat feels like the right energy for the first Monday of August.
Let’s roll up our sleeves, get focused, and make it a strong week!

What we nurture within us shapes how we show up in the world.
Compassion or fear.
Resentment or love.
The seeds we plant matter.

Maybe it was:
You do not have to have everything figured out.
Your voice matters.
One mistake will not define your future.
You belong in the room.
We believe encouragement, access, and support can change the direction of a young person’s life.
Drop one piece of advice you would give your younger self in the comments.
Your words may be exactly what someone needs today!

Fear can convince us to stay quiet, play small, or walk away from opportunities before we ever discover what is possible.
At CNWF, we encourage young people to recognize their potential, build confidence, and keep moving forward, even when the next step feels uncertain.
Your future deserves to be shaped by courage, possibility, and purpose—not fear! 🙌🏿
#CNWF #YouthLeadership #YouthDevelopment #FutureLeaders #CourageOverFear
Building brighter futures begins with a commitment to be a blessing to others.
At the Carlo and Nika White Foundation, that commitment guides how we invest in young people, support communities, and create opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.
We believe impact grows when we use what we have been given to help someone else move forward.

A beautiful evening celebrating purpose, promise, and the next generation!
The Carlo and Nika White Foundation was honored to attend the @beautymarks4girls 5th Annual Scholarship Ball and present a $2,500 scholarship to Mackenzie, who will attend Lander University this fall.
CNWF also pledged $2,000 toward her sophomore, junior, and senior years because we believe investing in young people should continue as they grow, pursue, and become.
Beauty Marks for Girls is doing incredible, uplifting work to empower young women, and we are proud to support Mackenzie as she begins this next chapter.
Congratulations, Mackenzie! 🙌🏿

ACTION WEDNESDAY
Think of someone who has made a meaningful difference in your life.
Maybe they encouraged you when you needed it most.
Opened a door.
Believed in you.
Showed up consistently.
Or helped shape who you are today.
Today, take a few minutes to text, email, or call them and tell them. 🫶🏿
Gratitude becomes even more powerful when it is expressed.

Every meaningful change begins with someone willing to imagine what is possible.

Don't give up!
The journey may be longer than you expected, but persistence has a way of opening doors, building resilience, and shaping futures.
Keep showing up.
Keep learning.
Keep going.
Your story isn't finished yet. 🙌🏿
Juneteenth reminds us that freedom opens the door to possibility.
And possibility grows when communities choose to invest in one another.
A scholarship awarded.
A young woman celebrated.
A future filled with promise.
These are the moments that remind us why this work matters.
Celebrating Juneteenth! ❤️💛💚

The past has shaped us. It has taught us, stretched us, and given us stories worth carrying forward.
But it doesn't require us to stay there! (Can we get an Amen?!)
We can honor where we've been while still believing in what's ahead.
Dream the dream.
Apply for the opportunity.
Start the program.
Take the class.
Build the business.
Say yes to the possibility.
The future needs people who are willing to imagine something better, AND courageous enough to help create it.
We're cheering you on every step of the way. 🙌🏿

What builds stronger leadership presence over time?
Experience or self-awareness?
Experience matters. It gives leaders perspective, exposure, and lessons to draw from.
But self-awareness is what turns experience into growth.
Without it, leaders can repeat the same patterns for years and call it wisdom.
This week, pay attention to one moment where you feel pressure rise.
Pause before responding.
Ask yourself:
What am I protecting right now?
What is needed from me in this moment?
That kind of awareness strengthens leadership presence over time.
#LeadershipConversation #Growth #LeadershipDevelopment #CNWF
Confidence doesn’t start in leadership roles. It starts in opportunities like this! (Pics from the annual LIT Service Trip 🫶🏿)
Our Leaders in Training (LIT) students are learning how to show up, lead, and grow with intention.
We’re incredibly proud of the leaders they’re becoming!
#YouthLeadership #FutureLeaders #CNWF
Confidence in leadership is often misunderstood.
It’s not volume.
It’s not control.
It’s not having all the answers.
It’s steadiness.
The ability to stay clear, grounded, and consistent—especially when pressure rises.
#Leadership #CNWF
Not all criticism is correct. But reacting to all of it emotionally creates confusion.
Strong leaders don’t absorb everything. They assess, filter, and respond with clarity.
The question isn’t “Was that criticism fair?”
The question is “How will I carry myself in response?”
#LeadershipDevelopment #EmotionalDiscipline #CNWF #LeadershipTips
This is a tough question, but it’s one worth asking
What’s harder as a leader, taking criticism personally or ignoring feedback you actually need?
Taking everything personally can make you reactive.
Ignoring useful feedback can keep you from growing.
The work is learning to pause long enough to ask:
Is this something I need to release? Or is this something I need to receive?
That pause can change how you lead!
#LeadershipConversation #GrowthMindset #CNWF
"It is a grave error for any leader to be oversensitive in the face of criticism." Nelson Mandela. Criticism is part of leadership.
How you respond to it determines your credibility, your influence, and your ability to lead others well.
#Leadership #EmotionalIntelligence #CNWF
There’s something powerful about watching young leaders grow in real time.
Our Leaders in Training (LIT) students have spent this year learning, stretching, and stepping into who they’re becoming.

As you head into the weekend, remember this:
We’re already in Q2. Summer is almost here. Life is moving.
If you’ve been sitting on an idea and not taking steps toward it, let this be your reminder:
Starting is one step. One new step.
You do not have to have the whole plan. You just have to begin.
And you can do it!
Today we’re proud to highlight CNWF board member Lawanna Dendy -@lawannadendy.
With more than 20 years of experience in human resources, strategic planning, change management, and coaching, Lawanna brings both deep professional expertise and a passion for helping others grow.
Her commitment to bridging the gap between people and opportunity makes her such a valuable part of the CNWF Board!
What you practice now becomes who you are later.
Not just the big decisions, the small ones too.
Showing up on time.
Giving your full effort.
Choosing discipline.
Taking responsibility.
These are the habits that shape confidence, character, and leadership over time.
You’re not waiting to become someone.
You’re becoming them right now.
If you’re a young leader, or know one, take note.
Pick one: discipline, consistency, or responsibility.
Which are you building? 👇
We believe in being life-long learners here at CNWF!
What better way to learn from each other than to share one lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.
Share in the comments.
Today we’re proud to highlight board member Pastor James E. White, II.
With more than 25 years of experience in construction, leadership, and management, Pastor White brings both professional expertise and a strong heart for service to the Carlo & Nika White Foundation Board.
We’re grateful for the wisdom and perspective he brings to this work!
At CNWF, we believe impact multiplies. Lift someone up and watch it continue!
Why invest in the next generation?
Because what young people are becoming today will shape our communities tomorrow.
Leadership is being formed right now. Through guidance, opportunity, consistency, and the people willing to pour into them along the way.
How are you giving back to the next generation?
We believe faith isn’t just what you believe, it’s what you do.
True faith requires action.
Whether it’s serving, mentoring, stepping out, or taking a risk—faith is revealed through movement.
If you’re a young leader—or know one—take note.
This is where leadership actually begins:
Discipline.
Consistency.
Small habits.
Not in big moments.
Not someday in the future.
But in what you choose to do—every single day.
We see it in the young leaders we work with—showing up, staying committed, and doing the work even when no one is watching.
Because what you practice now becomes who you are later.
Lessons learned the hard way often become wisdom worth passing on. So share this with a young leader who needs the reminder.
Today we’re highlighting LIT student Markaiya Young!
A member of the Class of 2026, Markaiya is involved in cheer, track, Mu Alpha Theta, and Beta Club, where she serves as treasurer. She is also an athletic trainer trainee and enjoys painting and cooking.
Markaiya has a heart for helping others and is committed to making a positive impact in the world.
We’re proud to be part of her journey!
Growth takes time.
Impact takes consistency.
And meaningful change is built step by step... not overnight.
We believe in doing work that lasts.
Investing in people, creating opportunities, and building stronger communities for the future.
And today we encourage you to stay the course because it’s worth it! 🙌🏿
We’re grateful for board member Hannah Cooley and the perspective she brings to the Carlo & Nika White Foundation.
With a background in leadership, research, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy, Hannah is deeply committed to creating opportunity and supporting meaningful impact in communities.
Leadership isn’t something you wait to grow into. It’s something you step into.
We believe young people don’t need to wait for permission to lead, they need opportunities, guidance, and people who believe in them.
Because when responsibility is embraced early, confidence, character, and impact follow.
Who is a young leader in your life that’s already stepping up? 👇
We are Carlo and Nika White Foundation and our mission is simple, but powerful:
to support and uplift Black families around the world.

Our final post in this 3-part series... Leadership Tips for Young People #3
Get a job. Even part-time. Even seasonal. Even volunteer.
Because leadership is not built only in classrooms, it is built in responsibility.
Work teaches young people how to:
• Show up consistently
• Take direction
• Respond to feedback
• Manage time
• Earn trust
A job builds discipline. Volunteer work builds service. Both build character.
For teens, and for the parents / caregivers guiding them, this is about more than earning money or filling time. It’s real-world leadership training.
The habits developed in these early job roles will shape how young people lead!

𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 “𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞” 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞.
Most teens focus on activities, but strong leaders focus on responsibility.
Here's How to Build a Responsibility Resume:
Start by listing every role you currently hold:
Student. Athlete. Employee. Volunteer. Sibling. Club member.
Next to each role, ask yourself:
What am I responsible for here?
Who depends on me?
What would excellence look like in this role?
Then choose one role and strengthen it through ACTION:
Show up 10 minutes early.
Prepare before practice.
Follow up without being asked.
Offer to help.
Leadership is built when you take small responsibilities seriously.
So start where you are and grow from there!
#LeadershipTip #CNWF #FutureLeaders #LeadershipDevelopment
Leadership doesn’t start with a title. It starts with involvement.
The strongest young leaders we see aren’t waiting to be “in charge.” They’re showing up in class, on teams, at work, in service, in creative spaces.
They join. They contribute.
They take responsibility and allow themselves to be stretched.
That’s how confidence is built, how discipline is formed and how leadership capacity grows.
If you’re young and wondering how to lead:
Start by getting involved.
Then get consistent.
Then get better.
Leadership is developed long before it’s recognized!

This past Saturday, our full Leaders in Training (LIT) cohort chose to serve! 🫶🏿
Students spent their weekend at @triunemercy packing food bags and creating artwork to include in lunch bags for neighbors in need.
Leadership isn’t just developed in classrooms!
It’s formed in moments like this, when young people give their time, their creativity, and their care.
We are SOO proud of this team for showing up and serving well!

Mentors, educators, and community leaders play a critical role in helping students see their potential and pursue opportunities with confidence.

Black history is told through stories, leadership, education, and art.
This picture was taking at a CNWF event, where we were honored to have local artist Timothy Cunningham paint live!
Art has always been a vital part of Black history.
It preserves culture, amplifies voices, and helps future generations see themselves in stories that matter.
We believe honoring Black history means supporting creative expression and the artists who help tell these stories in lasting ways.
